OUR STORY
How we got here
SNG Dialysis Downtown began as San Car Nephrology Group, a dialysis facility serving the San Antonio community for more than 15 years. When the original ownership group began to struggle, Dr. Robert Szewc stepped in to ensure that patients and families who had been coming here for years, some for generations, would not lose access to the care they relied on.
What started as a rescue became a reinvention. Under Dr. Szewc’s leadership, the facility was reorganized, rebranded, and recommitted to the values that large dialysis chains can often overlook: knowing your patients by name, treating them as individuals, and building relationships that extend to their families and communities.
Today, SNG Dialysis Downtown provides all three major dialysis modalities with a fully bilingual care team and a culture where patients are treated as people, not numbers. Our team is here to help patients and their families understand what to expect, answer questions, and provide support throughout their dialysis journey.

Mission statement
SNG Dialysis is dedicated to providing personalized dialysis care for patients living with kidney failure in San Antonio and the surrounding communities. Our goal is to make dialysis care as comfortable, coordinated, and understandable as possible.
We work closely with patients, families, nephrologists, and other healthcare providers to develop individualized treatment plans based on each patient’s medical needs, lifestyle, and goals. Through compassion, clear communication, and clinical excellence, we strive to create a safe and supportive environment throughout every stage of dialysis care.

Dr. Robert Szewc, MD
Nephrologist and medical director
Board-certified nephrologist with over 15 years of experience in kidney disease and dialysis care. Dr. Szewc took over SNG to preserve continuity of care for the community he has served throughout his career. He is directly involved in every patient's treatment plan and available for physician-to-physician consultation.

Stephany Gibson
Facility administrator
Stephany oversees the day-to-day operations of SNG Dialysis Downtown, ensuring that every patient experience, from scheduling to discharge, runs smoothly and reflects the standards of care the facility is built on. She is the primary point of contact for operational and administrative needs.
Dialysis nurses
Registered nurses trained in hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis, present at every in-center session and available for home therapy support.
Dialysis technicians
Certified technicians who set up and operate dialysis equipment, monitor patients during treatment, and assist the nursing team throughout each session.
Home therapy nurses
Specialized nurses who train and support patients on home hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis, including in-home visits and ongoing remote support.
Registered dietitian
Creates and monitors individualized renal diet plans for every patient. Meets regularly to review labs and adjust guidance as needs change.
Social worker
Provides counseling, insurance navigation, financial assistance connections, transportation coordination, and emotional support for patients and families.
Patient services team
Handles scheduling, intake, insurance verification, and patient communications. The first voice you hear and often the last face you see on your way out.

Longstanding Patient Relationships
At SNG Dialysis, patients are more than a treatment schedule. Our team focuses on building lasting relationships with patients and their families, including families we have had the privilege of caring for across generations.
Nursing home partnerships
We are actively partnering with local nursing homes to bring home dialysis programs directly on-site, reducing transport burden for the most vulnerable patients in our community.

San Antonio is a bilingual city. Our entire team communicates fluently in English and Spanish, and our materials, training, and education are available in both languages.
